Shopify's price is easy to find and hard to total. The plan fee is only the first line: you also pay a card rate on every order, an extra fee if you take payments through someone other than Shopify, a monthly charge for each shop counter running POS Pro, and whatever your theme and apps cost. This guide prices every part in US dollars, then adds them up for a real store.
All prices are Shopify's US list prices, before sales tax. Shopify shows different prices and currencies outside the US, so if you see euros or a lower number, you are looking at another country's page.
Shopify plans and pricing at a glance
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | Staff accounts | Online card rate | Third-party payment fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $29 a month | $39 a month | None extra | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2% |
| Grow | $79 a month | $105 a month | 5 | 2.7% + 30¢ | 1% |
| Advanced | $299 a month | $399 a month | 15 | 2.5% + 30¢ | 0.6% |
| Plus | From $2,300 a month on a term contract | Term contract only | Unlimited | 2.25% + 30¢ | 0.2% |
Every plan includes the online store, unlimited products, hosting with unlimited bandwidth, a free SSL certificate, Shopify's checkout and the ability to sell in person with a phone or card reader. Shopify charges no setup fee on any plan.
New stores get a free 3-day trial, then, Shopify says, most plans cost $1 a month for the first 3 months before switching to the standard price. Budget on the list price from month four.
Monthly vs yearly billing
Yearly billing is cheaper, but the discount shrinks as the plans get bigger:
| Plan | 12 months billed monthly | 12 months billed yearly | You save |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $468 | $348 | $120 (about 26%) |
| Grow | $1,260 | $948 | $312 (about 25%) |
| Advanced | $4,788 | $3,588 | $1,200 (25%) |
What a year of Shopify costs, billed yearly or monthly

- Billed monthly
Show the numbers
| Billed yearly | Billed monthly | |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $348 | $468 |
| Grow | $948 | $1,260 |
| Advanced | $3,588 | $4,788 |
On Basic, a year paid upfront is worth it once you are sure the store will stay open. On Grow and Advanced the saving is just as large in percentage terms, about a quarter, and worth $312 and $1,200 a year.
Basic: $29 a month billed yearly
Basic is the plan Shopify describes as for solo entrepreneurs, and it is enough for most new stores. It includes the full online store, unlimited products, 10 inventory locations, up to 3 B2B catalogs, abandoned checkout recovery, discount codes, gift cards, email campaigns and 24/7 live chat support.
The limits that matter:
- No extra staff accounts. The comparison table lists additional staff accounts only from Grow (5) up. Basic is a one-login store.
- Highest card rate. 2.9% + 30¢ online and 2.6% + 10¢ in person with Shopify Payments.
- Highest third-party fee. 2% of every order if you use PayPal, Stripe or another provider as your main payment gateway instead of Shopify Payments.
Choose it if you run the store yourself and sell less than about $25,000 a month online. Above that, Grow's lower card rate starts to pay for its higher price (worked out below).
Grow: $79 a month billed yearly
Grow costs $79 a month billed yearly or $105 monthly. It adds up to 5 staff accounts, a lower online card rate of 2.7% + 30¢ (2.5% + 10¢ in person) and a third-party fee of 1%. It also gets full data access for custom apps built on Shopify's APIs, where Basic is limited.
What to watch:
- The jump from Basic is large on yearly billing. $79 against $29 is $50 a month, or $600 a year, for staff accounts and 0.2 points off the card rate.
Choose it if two to five people need their own logins, or your online sales are steadily above $25,000 a month.
Advanced: $299 a month billed yearly
Advanced costs $299 a month billed yearly or $399 monthly. It raises staff accounts to 15, cuts the card rate to 2.5% + 30¢ online (2.4% + 10¢ in person) and the third-party fee to 0.6%. It also adds live third-party shipping rates at checkout, tools to tailor the store by region, enhanced live chat support and higher limits on select APIs.
What to watch:
- The card-rate saving needs volume. Advanced costs $220 a month more than Grow on yearly billing and saves 0.2 points on card fees, so it only pays for itself on rates alone above about $110,000 a month in online card sales.
- Checkout customization is still limited. A fully customizable checkout is a Plus feature.
Choose it if you sell internationally and need region-specific stores and shipping rates, or you need more than 5 staff accounts.
Shopify Plus pricing
Shopify's Plus pricing page lists two terms for standard setups:
| Plus term | Price | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| 3-year term | $2,300 a month | $27,600 |
| 1-year term | $2,500 a month | $30,000 |
Shopify says more complex, higher-volume businesses move to a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model, priced through its sales team. Plus is sold on 1- or 3-year terms, and Shopify says you can cancel when the term commitment expires.
For that, Plus adds unlimited staff accounts, 200 inventory locations, a fully customizable checkout, unlimited B2B catalogs, 25 headless storefronts, priority 24/7 phone support, POS Pro on 20 locations (up to 200 with Shopify Payments) and up to 9 expansion stores, for example one per country. Shopify's Plus page puts additional stores at $300 a month per store, or a revenue share across all stores.
Card fees are lowest on Plus: Shopify's US page lists 2.25% + 30¢ online and 2.3% + 10¢ in person, and the third-party fee is 0.2%. Its Plus page says card rates vary by country and that sales quote current rates.
Choose it if you are well past the point where a few points of card fees matter less than checkout control, B2B pricing and several regional stores. Most small businesses never need it.
Starter and the Agentic plan
Two cheaper plans come up when people search for the lowest Shopify price.
Starter is closed to new stores. Shopify's help center says the Starter plan "isn't available to new stores", and a merchant who leaves it can't come back. It was a cut-down plan for selling through product links on social media, with one theme and no collections or staff accounts. We don't quote its price because Shopify no longer lists it on its US pricing page.
The Agentic plan has no monthly fee. It is for merchants who don't use Shopify for their store: it adds your products to Shopify's Catalog so they can be bought in AI chat channels. You pay card or third-party fees only when you sell. You can build a Shopify store on it, but the store stays password protected; to publish it and take orders through your own checkout, you need a paid plan.
Card rates and transaction fees
Shopify Payments is Shopify's own processor. Use it and there is no transaction fee, only the card rate. The US rates on each plan:
| Rate (Shopify Payments) | Basic | Grow | Advanced | Plus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Online, standard cards | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2.7% + 30¢ | 2.5% + 30¢ | 2.25% + 30¢ |
| Online, premium cards | 3.5% + 30¢ | 3.3% + 30¢ | 3.1% + 30¢ | 2.95% + 30¢ |
| Online, international cards | +1% | +1% | +1% | +1% |
| In person, card present | 2.6% + 10¢ | 2.5% + 10¢ | 2.4% + 10¢ | 2.3% + 10¢ |
| In person, keyed in | 3.5% + 10¢ | 3.5% + 10¢ | 3.5% + 10¢ | 3.4% + 10¢ |
| PayPal wallet | From 3.49% + 49¢ | From 3.49% + 49¢ | From 3.49% + 49¢ | From 3.49% + 49¢ |
The third-party fee. If your main payment gateway is another provider, Shopify charges 2% (Basic), 1% (Grow), 0.6% (Advanced) or 0.2% (Plus) of each order, and you still pay that provider's own processing fee. On $10,000 a month of sales on Basic, that is $200 a month on top. For most US stores, Shopify Payments is the cheaper route.
What the plan and card fees add up to. For a store with a $50 average order, billed yearly and paid by domestic cards online:
| Monthly online sales | Basic | Grow | Advanced |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10,000 (200 orders) | $379 | $409 | $609 |
| $50,000 (1,000 orders) | $1,779 | $1,729 | $1,849 |
Plan plus card fees in a month, at two sales levels
- $10,000 in sales
- $50,000 in sales
Show the numbers
| $10,000 in sales | $50,000 in sales | |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $379 | $1,779 |
| Grow | $409 | $1,729 |
| Advanced | $609 | $1,849 |
The arithmetic for Basic at $10,000: $29 plan + $290 (2.9%) + $60 (200 × 30¢) = $379. The 30¢ per order is the same on every plan, so the break-even points depend only on the percentage: Grow beats Basic above $25,000 a month ($50 more plan fee ÷ 0.2%), and Advanced beats Grow above $110,000 a month ($220 ÷ 0.2%). On monthly billing, Grow's break-even rises to $33,000.
Marketplace orders. Orders synced from online marketplaces are free for the first 50 a month on every plan; above that, Shopify charges 1%, capped at $99 a month.
Shopify POS costs
Every paid plan includes basic in-person selling: take payments with a phone or card reader, simple customer profiles and returns at the location where the item was bought. For a real shop counter, Shopify sells POS Pro at $89 a month per location, billed yearly. It adds unlimited staff logins with roles and permissions, inventory counts and purchase orders, rich customer profiles, returns and exchanges at any location, in-store pickup and retail reports.
Hardware is bought once from Shopify's US hardware store:
| Hardware | Price |
|---|---|
| Tap & Chip Card Reader (US only) | $49 |
| POS Terminal (countertop) | $349 |
Example: one shop and an online store on Basic. $29 + $89 = $118 a month billed yearly, plus a $49 card reader, plus 2.6% + 10¢ on in-person card sales. Our POS systems guide compares that with Square, Clover and SumUp for a shop that mainly sells at the counter.
Themes, apps and other costs
The plan pays for hosting, the store and checkout. Three things commonly add to it:
- Themes. Shopify's Theme Store lists 24 free themes. Paid themes are a one-time purchase; the ones on the first page of the paid listing ran from $170 to $500.
- Apps. Many apps in the Shopify App Store charge their own monthly fee. Shopify's own email app, Shopify Email, includes the first 10,000 emails a month free, then charges from $1 per 1,000 emails. If you outgrow it, dedicated tools such as Klaviyo or Kit are billed separately by contact count.
- A domain. Every store gets a free myshopify.com address. You can connect a domain you already own or buy one through Shopify.
Shipping labels are bought as you use them; Shopify advertises discounts of up to 87% on labels on every plan.
What a Shopify website costs in a year
Three realistic setups, billed yearly, before taxes and domain:
| Store | Plan and add-ons | First-year fixed cost | Plus per-order fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo seller, free theme | Basic | $348 | 2.9% + 30¢ online |
| Solo seller, paid theme | Basic + a $350 theme | $698 | 2.9% + 30¢ online |
| Shop with one counter | Basic + POS Pro + card reader | $1,465 | 2.6% + 10¢ in person, 2.9% + 30¢ online |
| Team of five | Grow | $948 | 2.7% + 30¢ online |
The shop-with-a-counter line is $29 × 12 + $89 × 12 + $49 = $1,465. The $1-a-month promo cuts the first three months further if you start on monthly billing.
How Shopify compares
Shopify Basic's $29 billed yearly is the same headline price as Webflow Ecommerce Standard and BigCommerce's entry plan, and Shopify adds no fee of its own when you use Shopify Payments. If you mainly need a website that also sells a few things, a builder such as Wix or Squarespace may be simpler; our website builder guide and Wix vs Squarespace compare them plan by plan. For other ecommerce platforms, including BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Square Online and Ecwid, see our Shopify alternatives guide.
Which Shopify plan to choose
- Starting out alone? Basic, on monthly billing until the store proves itself, then yearly to save $120.
- Hiring help? Grow, for 5 staff accounts. It also becomes the cheaper plan above $25,000 a month in online sales.
- Selling in several countries, or more than 5 staff? Advanced, for regional stores, live shipping rates and 15 accounts.
- A physical shop too? Any plan plus POS Pro at $89 a month per location.
- Seven-figure revenue and complex checkout or B2B needs? Ask Shopify for a Plus quote; the list price starts at $2,300 a month on a 3-year term.
Whichever plan you pick, use Shopify Payments unless you have a strong reason not to: the third-party fee on Basic costs more than the plan itself once you sell about $1,500 a month.
