ActiveCampaign is an email marketing tool built around automation: welcome series, follow-ups that branch on what a contact clicked, reminders when someone goes quiet. Every plan includes multi-step automation, which is why it often shows up on shortlists next to cheaper newsletter tools. Like most email platforms, it prices by the number of contacts on your list.
Prices below are ActiveCampaign's US dollar list prices, opened from the US at the time of our last update. The pricing page shows them billed yearly; it does not list monthly-billing prices.

Two things stand out. Starter is cheap at 1,000 contacts but climbs fastest: at 10,000 contacts Plus is $40 a month more, by 20,000 the gap is $18, and at 25,000 contacts the pricing page shows Plus ($389) below Starter ($391). Starter is available only up to 25,000 contacts. Send limits scale with your list on every plan: ten sends per contact a month on Starter and Plus, twelve on Pro and fifteen on Enterprise.
Starter
Starter is $15 a month for 1,000 contacts, billed yearly. It includes multi-step marketing automation, AI-powered automation and campaign builders, email campaigns with 250+ pre-built templates, 15 active business goals and one user seat.
For a small business that wants a welcome series and a few automated follow-ups, Starter covers it. The single seat is the main limit.
Plus
Plus is $49 a month for 1,000 contacts. On top of Starter it adds cross-channel marketing, generative AI for content and images, landing pages and site messages, and 25 active business goals. Plus, Pro and Enterprise can add ActiveCampaign's Enhanced CRM (pipelines and sales engagement) as a paid add-on. Plus still includes one user seat.
Pro and Enterprise
Pro is $79 a month for 1,000 contacts and includes 3 user seats. It adds predictive sending at each contact's best time, conditional content (one email with versions for different contacts), advanced segmentation, attribution and conversion tracking, and 200 active business goals.
Enterprise starts at $145 a month for 1,000 contacts with 5 user seats, adding single sign-on, HIPAA support, premium segmentation and custom objects, premium CRM integrations such as Salesforce, and a dedicated account team with an uptime SLA.
Trial and growing past your plan
There is no free plan, but ActiveCampaign offers a free 14-day trial with an email sign-up and no credit card. Its FAQ says that when your list grows past your contact band, you can move up to the next band or plan without penalties, and you won't be locked out of your account.

Is ActiveCampaign worth it for a small business?
If automation is the reason you want an email tool, yes: Starter gives you multi-step automation for $15 a month at 1,000 contacts, billed yearly. Take the 14-day trial first, because the yearly price means a year's commitment. Check the price at your real list size before you sign up: the gap between Starter and Plus narrows as your list grows, to $18 a month at 20,000 contacts, so compare the two at that point.
